I was resting in bed and envisioned the "to do" list I created the beginning of this week. It sits there on the front ledge of my mind as a constant reminder of all the things that I have yet to accomplish. With my imaginary red ink pen, I scratched off all the tasks that were completed, but started to sink into my mattress as I numbered off all of things I hadn't. Praying for a powerful wind of relief to sweep over me and take along with it the 50 pound weight that was heavy laden on my chest, I couldn't seem to shake this other image. I saw a hand wrapped around an electrical plug. I stirred myself out of a dream-like state, and began to ask God the meaning of this. In a brief phrase, the Lord spoke, "You hold the plug in your hand."
Galatians 6:9 states, "Let us not grow weary while doing good...". Whenever we grow weary in well-doing, it is important to remind ourselves that there is a greater source of power than BG&E or General Electric. It is God. We are capable of overcoming weariness, stress, anxiety, depression (the list goes on) through our one true Source of strength. Scripture states, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). We live in a day and time bombarded by the latest fads and trends. We are led to believe that yoga, herbal supplements, or a nice hot cup of coffee from Starbucks (as a mid-day break from the office) will help us recharge, refuel, and relieve stress. How many of you run through a mental checklist every night before getting some shut-eye? Are you the type of person that allows the stressors of life to pile upon your shoulders like a ton of bricks? I hope you realize that by doing so, YOU create your own headache and heartache unnecessarily.
I believe that God wants us to remember that we are human. As humans, we have shortcomings (or short circuits). Whenever you feel a short in your circuit, it is time to plug into the Power Supply. How might we do this? There are many ways to get recharged. First and foremost, reading and studying the Word is an essential part of everyone's life. It is our roadmap. It encourages us, it guides us, and gives us hope. Most importantly, God speaks to us through His Word. In addition, it is vital for every believer to join a church that preaches the Gospel. Church is when members of the body of Christ come together to fellowship, worship, and be fed the Word of the Lord. I look forward to attending a weekly service because it is there that I become revitalized, ready to take on the rest of the week. I encourage us, however, to crave even more than our weekly fill. We can maintain plugged into the Source everyday of the week! You can attend mid-week bible studies, serve within or outside of the church, and even greater, utilize our God-granted ability to PRAY! All of these things I have listed are ways we can plug into our Power Source!
Remember we work within our own free will. You have to be conscious of the plug God has placed within YOUR hands. YOU must make the effort to plug yourself in. No one can or will do it for you! With all of the chaos and unsettledness the world has to offer, let's make the choice to not grow weary, not become stressed or lose our zeal! The Lord is waiting for us to connect with Him and allow Him to be our true Source of Power. "God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God" (Psalm 62:11). Amen!
Love you brothers and sisters! Be encouraged!
