The Lord put it on Nehemiah's heart that he would oversee the restoration of the wall of Jerusalem. Prior to this, Nehemiah was a cupbearer, serving the king of Artaxerxes. As the cupbearer, he was the king's trusted advisor. In exchange, I can imagine that Nehemiah enjoyed the comforts of living in the palace. However, all of this changed, when Nehemiah got wind of the injustices the Jews faced in Jerusalem as the walls that surrounded and protected the city were crumbling down around them. He mourned for them, fasted, and prayed. The Faithful One responded and called upon him to leave his city. Without hesitation, Nehemiah obeyed the voice of God.
It goes without saying that Nehemiah has a heart for the Lord. He is faithful in listening to and obeying His voice. He has unfailingly proven himself a great leader for the Jews at this critical time for the mere fact that he responded. He showed up. God is looking for many laborers in His kingdom. He is looking for the people who are willing to leave the comforts of their present lifestyle, circumstance, or situation in order to take up the cross and serve Him. I can imagine that it wasn't easy for Nehemiah to leave the palace or the familiarity of his city. But the fire and passion that dwelled within him to serve the Jews was far greater than his personal interests. I know each and every one of you who is reading this blog today has a burning desire that God has placed within you. However, how many times have you squelched the flame? You have decided that you would get around to it at a time that is more convenient for you. When God calls, picture the urgency behind it. Now is the time to act!
When Nehemiah enters the city of Jerusalem, he realizes the work that is cut out for him. The gates are broken and the walls are burned down in a massive state of destruction. However, Nehemiah does not get discouraged. He remembers the vision God has given him and instead of worrying, he encourages the Jews, "You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jersualem, that we may no longer be a reproach." (Nehemiah 2:17) The Jews responded with faith and belief that their works would not be done in vain. "Let us rise up and build'. Then they set their hands to this good work." (Nehemiah 2:18)
"Let us rise up and build", my friends. It is time to pray, "O God, strenthen my hands" (Nehemiah 6:9) Ask the Lord to strenthen and provide supplication to do the work of His will. It is not a feat that should be done alone, but it should at all times be under the direct supervision, guidance, and provision of God. That way your work will not be heavy burdened, nor will you fall weak. Even the construction workers rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem were armed with the sword, and for us that would mean the Word of God. "Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built." (Nehemiah 4:18). It is vital for every individual to be armed with the sword of the spirit, the Word of God, before engaging in the greater work of His Kingdom.
It goes without saying that Nehemiah's call was met with it's fair share of opposition. "Now it happened, when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were being restored and the gaps were beginning to be closed, that they became very angry, and all of them conspired together to come and attack Jersualem and create confusion." (Nehemiah 4:7-8) During the reconstruction of the wall, Nehemiah's enemies sent messengers on several occassions to distract Nehemiah so that he would abandon his plans. Nehemiah responded gracefully and refused to meet with them to speak. The final servant that was sent to him stated that there were rumors about suggesting Nehemiah had plans to become the king of the Jews. Now, Nehemiah, who was affirmed in his own heart, knew that this was a ploy to get him and his workers off task. He paid them no mind and continued on with his work as planned.
What would have happened if Nehemiah lost focus? What if Nehemiah's enemies' conspiracy was a success? Well, the answer to that is very simple. The wall would not have been built, or perhaps it would have taken much longer for it to be completed. We will undoubtedly face opposition when we are walking in our higher calling. There will be many who mock or cast judgement upon you. There may be those who persecute you. However, this is the enemy's form of distraction. He will prey upon your weaknesses. For most, that means our reputations. I can speak for the majority of us who value our reputations. Imagine being slandered and put to shame consistently when you are serving the Lord. Many of us face that on a daily basis. Get used to it. It is hard and it can wear you down at times, but do not lose focus! The enemy is the epitome of confusion. He comes to destroy our visions and the dreams God has placed within us. When God speaks something over our life, act on it full-heartedly, without doubt and fear.
As the story goes, the wall of Jerusalem was built and completed in fifty-two days under the leadership of Nehemiah. God called upon this righteous leader who served Him faithfully to do a great work in protecting the children of Israel. Now, I would like for you to examine your own heart. God lit a match to the wicker of your soul and it has been burning for some time now. Have you responded? If not, there is no better time than now. Be obedient, be faithful, and trust that the Lord will protect and provide for you along the way. Like Nehemiah, ask God to strenthen your hands to complete the work He has called you to do.
Until next time, be encouraged, my friends...

He Will Meet You Where You're At
"Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" Psalm 34:8
Indescribable joy wells up in my heart when I think about the goodness of the Lord. His mercy, His kindness, forgiveness, grace, and joy are all gifts we can receive. They are the unspeakable riches of Christ. To know Christ means we have engaged in His love, adhered to His wisdom, and submit to His admonishment. The only way we can fully experience the love of Christ is when we can bear witness to His work in our lives.
I want to address those who are in a trying time in their life. You might be saying: I am in a dark place. How can I overcome? How will I dig myself out of this mess? Sometimes, you may question if the Lord has forsaken you. However, I believe I am here today to remind you that the Lord has NEVER forsaken His children. You are a precious, valuable, child of God. If you feel He is no longer pursuing you. It is time to ask yourself, how and through what means have you been trying to pursue Him? As I begin to ponder upon this question, a scripture comes to mind. Psalm 89:30 states, "If his sons forsake My law and do not walk in my judgements, if they break My statutes and do not keep My commandments, Then I will punish their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, Nor allow My faithfulness to fail."
Wow! How powerful is that word? This promise ensures us that regardless of where we are in our lives or how far out of the will of God we are, He will continue to love us and pursue us unfailingly. Yes, you may be in a dark valley and it could be a result of the actions that YOU chose to make. However, if you are willing to listen and adhere to the voice of reason, meaning the voice of the ONE TRUE HIGH GOD, then you will experience His mercy and grace in your life. He is always pursuing you. Now it is time to pursue HIM. You may be so far gone that you are unable to Hear him. But, I encourage you, sit, be at peace, and listen for the Lord your God is longing to spend some alone time with you. Rid yourself of the distractions of this world. Silence your cell phones, turn off your television, and shut out the constant noise around you! Be still and just listen. Allow Him to meet you where you are at. You are never too far to hear the Shepherd's call if you would just LISTEN.
Remember that every cause has an effect. I know that there are some unique circumstances in which we find ourselves in turmoil due to no fault of our own. However, think about it. How many of us have found ourselves in turmoil we have created? Now, I don't recommend you to dwell on the past. Nor am I here to place guilt upon you for the choices you have made. I can testify to quite a few poor decisions I have made in my own life. However, I am here to reinforce the fact that regardless of how often or how much we shut God out of the affairs of our life, we are always welcome to come back Home, sitting at the feet of our Savior. He WILL admonish us according to our transgressions. Remember though, He will NEVER forsake us because His love is unconditional. If you remember anything from this blog today, just remember these simple words that were catchy enough to become a song, "Just call my name, and I'll be there"! JUST CALL HIS NAME AND HE WILL BE THERE!
Be encouraged my dear friends wherever you are in your walk with Christ, even when you are not in His will. HE WILL MEET YOU WHERE YOU ARE AT! Praise the Lord!
All my love and blessings to you....

He Will Let You Down to Lift You UP!
In life we must face the harsh reality that there may come a time when our expectations do not align with the will of God. We spend precious hours of the day anticipating and fantasizing that something or someone will come along to revamp our lives, providing it a new meaning or purpose. However, in these moments of deep contemplation, we fail to ask ourselves a very vital question, "Is what 'could be' for me?".
I have been actively learning to lean on Christ when facing personal dilemmas in life, no matter how big or small they may seem. I can attest to a handful of situations when I thought the Lord was opening a door, only to discover it locked. I would then find myself trying to twist the door knob, tugging and pulling to no avail. Then after my relentless efforts fail me, I raise my hands and surrender to my defeat. Perplexed, I ask God how could this be when all signs seemed to point in this direction.
The act of living can sometimes feel as if we are walking a tightrope blindfolded. It can be unstable, unreliable, and unpredictable. How often, however, are we tapping into that little voice inside, the voice of God, to navigate the journey for us? I understand that it is far easier to take matters into our own hands. For example, "I like the salary at this job, so I am going to take the job offer" or "I am going to date Johnny (or Jane) because it feels good to be around them". I am sure that any reasonable person would advise that these two examples do not deem threatening nor are they cause for alarm. It should be ok to take the plunge. But remember, no matter how shiny and polished that wrapper is, what's inside may not be right for you. You may find yourself on a collision course, headed down a roadway of destruction if you were to act on your judgement and free will alone.
Now, when we finally realize that the door is not budging, we oftentimes face a period of discontentment, the "let down" phase. This is usually the time when we ask ourselves, "So what now?". I say instead of sulking and reliving our disappointment, we need to turn our backs to the door, LIFT our hands in an attitude of praise, and thank GOD that He stopped us from shoving one foot in that doorway. Lord knows what could have happened if we did.
There are times, however, when I believe God introduces a prospect, a door that will eventually open, but in His timing. In this instance, we must learn to be patient and to wait on Him. He is in the midst of equipping you and refining you for the journey that lies beyond the doorway. He may also be refining the prospect beyond the doorway. Nevertheless, regardless of how difficult it may be, you must relinquish control to Him.
It hurts when you face a let down. However, remember that God will only LET YOU DOWN TO LIFT YOU UP! So with your chin up, chest out, breast plate tightened, and sword in HAND, get ready to submit and surrender your will to HIM! It won't be easy but His WILL and WAY is worth fighting for!
Proverbs 3:5-6 states, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight".

The Lost Generation
How often do you hear your parents or your parents' parents discuss the pity they feel for the generation growing up in the world today? They have to deal with the lack of stability, the anguish caused by mass hysteria and pandemics that threaten our very existence, and the tragic notoriety society places on celebrities and public figures whom we examine with a superhuman microscope. This of course does not sum up all that our youth has to combat daily. It is just a taste of what they face on a routine basis.
And to top it all off, divorce is at an all time high. Statistics show that around 41% of marriages end up in divorce. Does this scare anyone? Now I've never been married but just by reading up on the amount of failed marriages that plague our nation, it can make anyone shy away at the very thought. Let me continue. In the midst of divorce, add children to the equation. Where do they fit into all this? Oftentimes they are left to fend for themselves during the emotional tug-of-war brought about by custody battles and shared visitations. After undergoing all this, it leaves no room left to wonder why our youth is so lost.
At a time when children can no longer just be children, are we not afraid of the effect this has on their emotional stability? With that said, how much are we praying for our children? If you are the type that maintains a "prayer laundry list", here's one you should add-- pray for the lost generation. Pray that they do not become consumed nor tempted by the bombardment of ads, tv shows, and music that corrupt their innocent and malleable minds. Pray that they do not fall victim to the superficial appeal of sin. Pray that they grasp a true understanding of what love and commitment mean so that the vows they exchange before God are done so with a deep respect and reverence for the sanctity of marriage.
It has also been on my heart to reach out to the fathers who are not stepping up to the plate. (Forgive me if I offend anyone. This goes for mothers too. I won't discriminate). I believe a lot of what our lost generation needs is two active parents. There are so many children being raised in a single parent home where mom (or dad) is busy working, running errands, tending to matters concerning the child, and trying to make-up for where the absent party lacks. But let's face it. You can only be a mother (or a father). You can't be both. So, to my inactive parents, I hope you realize the detriment you are causing in the lives of your little ones. It doesn't take much to sit down with your child and converse with him/her about anything that is on his/her heart. Children don't require much. They just want to know you care. This alone is so vital to their emotional upbringing and well-being.
If what I discussed rings true for you, just know it is never too late to start a relationship with your child. You can't change the past or the hurt. But, you can play a role NOW in helping him/her build a healthy, happy, productive, and fruitful future.
As always, thank you for taking the time out to read my blogs. Please let me know if there is anything on your heart that you would like to discuss. You can contact me via email at jalleh2006@yahoo.com.

ABC's of Victory
My dear friends, I would first like to apologize for my absence. I have been going through a mighty storm and I am still holding on tight to Jesus' curtail until I have made it safely to the other side! I want to thank the Lord for lighting a match to the wicker of my soul, that despite my turmoil, I still have a yearning to push through and praise His sweet, Holy name! Amen!
Last night, during some prayer and meditation on the Word, God put something on my heart. I refer to it as the ABC's of victory although technically the acronym only make sense if you read it backwards! So just bare with me, please. It will start to make sense, I promise!
God has planted in all of us the expectancy and desire to see more come to pass in our lives. We may be wanting to expand our ministry, change our occupations, strengthen our relationships with loved ones, etc (this list is not exhaustive). Whatever burning desire you have in you will only come to pass until you have conceived it and the plan of action that will ensue. Nobody got anywhere in life just by worrying about their current situation, stressing over their finances or over their failing marriages. No, positive change can only take root in our lives when we have decided to make a change. With that said, it doesn't happen overnight and I only encourage you to do so after consulting with God, through prayer and meditation on His Word. Yes, sometimes we have to heed to that little voice inside--I call that the voice of God. In Isaiah 55:9, the Lord says, "As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways".
When you have aligned your vision with that of which God has called you, we must start believing for it. Can you envision your ministry expanding to where thousands (or maybe millions) of lives are being saved? Can you imagine holding down a job that serves purpose in your life? A job that you don't dread waking up to every morning? Can you imagine rekindling a relationship with a friend or family member that has burned you in the past? Or can you imagine loving your spouse whole-heartedly, despite his/her faults, or despite his/her wrongdoings? God can. He wants you to see it and believe it before He opens up the floodgates and pours out His blessings into your life. You have to believe that the Lord is more capable than you can ever imagine to bring visualization into fruition. To continue with the passage in Isaiah 55, verse 10-11 state, "For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to him who sows and bread to him who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent".
This passage from the Bible brings me to my last point, ACHIEVE! There will come a point in each of our lives where we may be tried and tested. The enemy wants to see you fall off course from that straight and narrow pathway that you are living in order to receive the victory God has in store for you! Do not lose focus. Keep your eyes on Him! He wants so badly to see you achieve the fullness and abundance of glory that He has waiting for you on the other side! Nobody said that the road would be easy, but are you willing to sacrifice everything for the Lord? If so, be ready to open your hands out wide to receive the victory the good Lord will release unto you. You have achieved it!!!!
I don't know about you, but I am so ready to follow these three basic principles as I serve the Lord. So, here are the ABC's of Victory (backwards) summed up for you:
Conceive
Believe
Achieve
I love you and thank you for taking the time out to read my blogs. May God plant in you a great vision that will take you further in your faith walk as you continue to serve the Lord and remain in pursuit of His love, honor, kindness, and mercy. May you believe and hold tight to your faith regardless of the attacks that may come your way until you have reached that moment of victory. To me the greatest victory is to hear the words of the Lord, "Well done my good and faithful servant"!
With that said, take on the week with these three principles: Conceive, Believe, Achieve...
And Stay Encouraged!!!

Forgiveness: Futile to Freedom
Romans 12:19--"Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay,' says the Lord".
A few days ago, a friend of mine requested that I blog about forgiveness. It wasn't until tonight that I finally felt confident enough to touch on such a complex, multi-dimensional issue. After all, what kind of authority do I have to speak on forgiveness when I haven't so much as forgiven myself in a variety of ways?
So, let me start off by asking you, have you forgiven someone, including yourself, who had an adverse effect on your life? How do we know if we have? Sometimes we go through life unaware of this constant gnawing at the very depths of our hearts. We may subconsciously try to bury it in order to escape the pain, or we may be consciously doing so in order to mask the shame or guilt that consumes us. Either way, you are suppressing a very natural feeling which may in turn give way to resentment towards the wrongdoer if not addressed appropriately. Sometimes this person is aware of it, sometimes they are not. And it hurts even more to believe that the latter may be true, for they are able to walk around with a clear conscience, while you are left to pick up the pieces. All in all, what is being resolved if we feed into the negativity? All you really gain is an attachment to these very sentiments that have ruled your life up until this point. Have you become so accustomed to feeding into this past hurt that you now identify with it? Yikes! I can vouch and that is not a very safe place to be.
Some of us may have taken an additional step, seeking revenge against those who played a role in the wrongdoing. In response to this, I shall paraphrase Romans 12:19. We have no authority over those who have sinned against us. We instead should "leave room" for God to step into the fire and drag us out. He will extinguish the fiery flames that torment your life. You have no business staring into the face of the flame or you will continue to get burned. Trust that God is dealing with your tormentors accordingly.
Another friend of mine, without even realizing the dilemma I was in, sent me a link entitled "Luggage". It touched on exactly what I wanted to discuss in this posting. So, without further adieu, I bring it to you. My lesson for today comes along with visual aid! It makes my life a lot easier! Let me know what you think! Make sure to watch both parts.

I pray that all who read this experience a wave of forgiveness that will wash up upon the shores of their hearts. And as the wave retracts back to the sea, I pray that it will carry along with it, the hurt, the painful memories, and the shame that has weighed heavy on them for so long. In addition, I pray that God will break any spirit of vengeance that they may feel towards those who have hurt them. That battle is not theirs to fight.
Until next week, my brothers and sisters in Christ, feel encouraged that tomorrow is a new day. A day to forgive. A day to stop up the leak that has allowed the spirit of resentment and/or vengeance to infiltrate your pure heart. Trust that you are strong enough to block out the painful memories that persist on haunting you day after day. They are no longer your reality. They are just figments of your mind and they belong where they were created--in the past.
Let's instead open our minds to the future possibility of freedom that comes at the expense of a clear conscience and a light heart. We will soon be jet-setting to an eternity in paradise and no baggage is needed. So, travel light!
Blessings over you and your household, my friends....

Questioning our Convictions
Definition of conviction: a) a fixed or firm belief, b) the act of convincing.
What are your convictions? What firm beliefs or ideals do you stand by? If your convictions were confronted with opposition, are you confident enough in your understanding to defend them?
I stand firm in my conviction to live according the the Word. Underlying that, however, the lines become blurred. In my own experience, I have found a great deal of divisiveness within the Christian church, so much so that at times it makes me question my own beliefs. Some churches preach the gospel of love. The pastor loves on his/her congregation and as a result the members of the church feel a responsibility to minister in the same way. Other churches may place more value on obedience. They may expect their body to adhere to certain rules and guidelines to enforce obedience to the Lord. When the two meet, questions may arise as to who may be more "Christ-like". We may size each other up, wondering why he/she doesn't act or minister in the same way you do. Some of us who are new believers might not yet have strong roots in their convictions. As a result, he/she may begin to question their own foundation of faith.
Let's take the way we envision God for example. I was raised in a loving environment, where the image of God was painted in hues of love, forgiveness, and mercy. As a result, I try to walk accordingly and fellowship with believers who share the same perspectives. I have come across fellow believers who illustrate God as One that should be feared, a jealous God, or a Redeemer. This is also true as spoken about in the Bible. My walk may be different than theirs. My talk may be different than theirs. But neither is more "Christ-like". I find that I have to check myself every now and then when sentiments of inferiority in my convictions kick in. Just because this Christian wears a skirt down to her ankles, doesn't mean that you are in sin if yours comes to your knees. Are you comfortable in your own skin as a Christian or do you feel as though your convictions vacillate with the wind?
This leads me to another stumbling block. Who should be questioning your convictions? People of the world, fellow believers, or God? You can sit down and have a conversation with non-believers and realize that there are so many different perspectives when there is only one God. You can converse with fellow believers and realize that the same holds true. Why is this? My only speculation is that we all come from different backgrounds, whether it be ethnicity, culture, or up-bringing. Our history can paint or taint an ideal based on what we've heard, seen, or felt about it at a given time.
My resolution is this: Get in where you fit in. Not every church is for you. You may not care to fellowship with every Christian. That is okay. Spend time alone with God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. In that time you will gain a deeper understanding of Him, which in turn stimulates growth in faith and in our convictions. Don't let fellow man decide for you. Stand firm for in you He has planted a seed of righteousness, justice, and, truth!
Be bold, Be Strong, and Trust that you are who God made you to be!
Until next time...

No, He Never Lets Go!
Let's medidate on this Bible verse for a moment: Joshua 1:5b. The Lord said, "I will not leave you nor forsake you". I don't know about you, but after reading this verse, I feel as though I can conquer the world! For I know that through my struggles, my battles, my highs and my lows, I have the strongest army behind me--my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Not too long ago, I was at a point in my life where I thought I knew it all. I knew what occupation to pursue. I knew where I wanted to live. I knew the type of mother I wanted to be. I knew the type of man that I would eventually marry. No one could tell me different. I thought I had it all figured out. But God, in a moment's time, pulled the rug right out from under me. Just like that, I found myself flat on my face. God doesn't care where you are in your life or if the timing is convenient. He will show up when His sheep are off-course and He will take whatever means necessary to steer you back in the right direction. You have to remember, you are not in control. So just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
I know I am making light of what is oftentimes a very painful process. When God is working on you, it can almost feel as though everything that you know and love is stripped away. He may separate you from friends. You may lose your job. He will definitely tear apart your ego and in place of that pour in humility. By this point, you're probably wondering, "Why Me"?! When instead you should be exclaiming, "Yes, Me"! Through it all, you realize He has not left you nor forsaken you. He is in the process of building you up, equipping you, restoring you, and renewing you to do a greater work for His kingdom.
If and when when you lose your footing, and you fear the pain you are about to face, God steps right in to break your fall. It won't be as bad as you anticipated and from it you are almost guaranteed to learn something. I don't know if you remember but in my previous blog, I spoke about an event that occurred to me on top of a mountain. I literally lost my footing when I reached the top. Had I not done so, I would not have noticed the letters etched out in the sand--"P-A-P-A". And just like a good Papa, God will let you fall on your face sometimes to: 1) strengthen you for what is yet to come 2) strengthen your relationship with Him.
How many of us know that even when we make mistakes (some of them so bad we can't even forgive ourselves), He still has not left us? He has not forsaken us. He wants so badly for you to realize what greater purpose He has for you.
So, Press into Him, Seek Him, Praise Him and Thank Him for never letting us go!
Take on this week encouraged because you know that your Heavenly Father loves you just that much!
Bless you!

Make Papa Proud
In times of desperation and through the muddled chaos that surrounds you, do not forget the ultimate Being who created you in His image. How refreshing it is to think that we were made in the likeness of God. The omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, omnibenevolent (to name a few) has created a blue print of who we are predestined to be. Although each one of us is unique in so many ways, we are all brought into this world the same way--equipped with the desire to please our Heavenly Father. With free will, he allows us to choose between the life he has pre-determined for us (our blue print if you will) or the life that we create for ourselves. Which do you choose?
I decided to take a trip to Malibu this past Saturday with the initial intent of taking a long jog on the beach. I find that running helps me regain focus, especially in the midst of a storm (one that I have been trying to weather this past week). So, I started running towards a parking lot, an area I had never been before. Without a clue in my mind about where I was going, I continued until I reached a set of stairs in the sand that led me to a trail up the incline of a mountain. I started on this path a little nervous after noticing that no one else was around. I had a flashback of a conversation I had with a friend who told me that he ran into a mountain lion during one of his hikes up the mountains! However, I started reassuring myself that it is highly unlikely to find a mountain lion hanging out at the beach (or so I hoped)!
Trying to be bold, I started my journey along this trail. I noticed the daffodils that painted the pathway yellow. I then averted my eyes to the sky and noticed the seagulls spreading their wings as they spanned the clear, blue sky much like a kite rides the wind. I stopped at a point in my journey and rested at the edge of a cliff that overlooks the grandiose sea below. I began praying that God would reveal Himself to me. It was then that I reflected on a sermon that took place in church the night before. I found it amusing that the pastor referred to our Heavenly Father as "Papa" and how we should make "Papa proud". I started reflecting on how endearing it is to refer to Him as such and how I hoped that I made my Papa proud!
After some rest, I decided to continue. I came to a fork in the trail where one could either go further up the incline to the peak of the mountain or take the path of least resistance and head down the slope. I deciphered for a moment and then started to pray. I told God that I will persevere in reaching the top of the mountain, which symbolizes the trying quest I am willing to take in seeking after His heart. I followed a hummingbird that served as my guide and I almost effortlessly took long strides to the top. Needless to say, the atmosphere was breath-taking as I began surveying it all in 360 degree intervals. It was at this very moment that I began to lose my footing. I looked down to regain my balance and there written in the sand read "Papa".
I am ever so grateful for this encounter with God and I begin to wonder what if I had made the choice to travel down the path of least resistance? It is not always easy walking with the Lord, especially in today's society. However, the more you seek His presence, the more He will reveal Himself to you. I encourage each and everyone of us to take time out of our busy schedules for a one-on-one with God. You know you can't live without Him, so why do you try?
Nothing pleases "Papa" more than you longing to spend time with him. Nothing pleases "Papa" more than you desiring to be just like Him--an image of Him here on earth for the whole world to see. And when someone asks you, "Who do you favor?", you can say without a shadow of a doubt that you are your Papa's child. And yes, the more you favor Him, the more He favors you.
Now that's something to rejoice about!
P.S. The Lord put something on my heart today. "Keep your head up or you'll miss the beauty that surrounds you".
Amen!
Be blessed, Be Joyous, Be Fruitful, Keep your HEAD UP, and...

The Healing Power of Rain
I've stared at the computer for about 20 minutes before I mustered up the energy to press my fingers to the keys. I suppose I have been in contemplation about what message to pass along to my readers today. To tell you truthfully, I have been in a drought this past week which is somewhat ironic seeing as how it has been raining for a week straight. Tony! Toni! Tone! just might have had it wrong when they sang "It never rains in Southern California"! I never cared much for the rain, which is one of the biggest reasons why I decided to move out to LA. Needless to say, the gloom and doom that has weighed heavy on most Southern Californians the past couple of days has also left me unmotivated and in a funk. However, I am trying my very best to remain positive!
I initially started to blog in order to keep people in the loop regarding the progress of my music career. However, this unintentionally turned into a weekly therapeutic session as I expose my life and my endless desire to align it with God's plan for me. I don't know what these postings may mean to you or if it has helped you in determining what it is you want out of life, but I know it's made me realize some harsh realities about myself. I have become so consumed with my future that I have overlooked what I need to appreciate in the present. I have an amazing son, who is growing up so fast that I just can't keep up with him! I have a roof over my head, a stocked refrigerator, a job that gives me the opportunity to work with and mentor our youth, a car, a home church, and an amazingly loving, supportive family. Where in this did I lose sight of what life is all about?
Our day-to-day affairs oftentimes become overwhelming, so much so that we forget to take just a 5 minute break to reflect. God does indeed have a plan for our lives. However, we musn't spend day after day trying to figure it out. For it's in this time, that we should be engaged in the experience of the journey. God wants us to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. This beauty emanates in nature, as well as through the relationships we nurture with His children.
So, let's take on the coming week, with an open heart and open mind, ready to receive and appreciate the blessings that God pours over us. As the rain continues to fall, let's not hide in shelter, but instead stand boldly in the midst of it. With our arms out-stretched and hands open, let's receive its healing power and allow it to quench the dry desert of our souls. Let's continue to put our lives into perspective and thank God for all the things we do have, instead of obsessing over the things we want.
I appreciate all of you who take the time out to read my blogs. If there is anything on your heart that you would like to discuss, please comment. I love hearing other people's testimonies and how God is using them for His work.
With that said, remember that this drought will only last for a season. The rain will come to wash away our weaknesses and in turn expose the beautiful light that lies within.
As always, be joyous, be fruitful, be appreciative, and

God Within Us
I wake up to another sunshine-filled morning in beautiful Southern California. I am still laying in bed, trying to contort my body in such a way that will enable me to look past the horizon of my parking lot structure to see palm trees swaying in the wind. LOL
I've mustered up enough energy this morning to make blueberry pancakes for my little guy with a side order of fresh blueberries. Yes, he is a huge blueberry fan! He and I listen to some jazz on Pandora (great site for streaming music) and I start to realize that this would have to be the only genre of music that can tranform a seemingly sad situation (ie failed relationship) into a toe-tapping, light-hearted melody. Jaden's take on it: "All the singers sound the same". Hahaa! Gotta Love Kids!
With all that said, let's get back to business. Have you made any progress in establishing your short-term and long-term goals? If so, please comment as I would love to hear all about it!
This past week, I have come to a conclusion that was determined through the help of prayer, as well as counsel from a dear friend and musical genius, Jon. To sum it up: "Stop looking for your answers 'out there'. The answers in determining what you are looking for are inside of you". The way I look at it is that each and every one of us has God inside of us. If we could just learn to tap into that power source, the possibilities in life would be endless!
How do I relate this to my personal goals? Well, I have decided that I am getting pretty tired of relying on other people to accomplish certain tasks (ie recording). So, I plan to invest in some recording equipment to create a little in-home studio that will allow me to record at my leisure. I think this will also stimulate creative energy! PRAYERFULLY, all of this will work out!!! One small problem, I'm not too technologically savvy but I figure if I have enough patience to read through and comprehend an IKEA manual, I'm sure I can figure this one out! I've received some sound advice from my musical genius friend on finding the right equipment, but would love to hear any of your ideas as well. If you have any knowledge on mics, especially, I could greatly use your input! Anywho, I think I have rambled on enough!
So, let's take on the coming week with the understanding that each and every one of us has God within us. Stop looking for all of the answers in signs and through external means. The answers all lie dormant within you. You can awake them through prayer, meditation, fasting, and staying in the Word. With that said, be blessed, be fruitful, and be joyous!
Most importantly...

The First Step
I am a single mother.
I am a singer/songwriter.
I am a child of God who has an aching desire to realize her purpose in life.
These three statements define me at this very moment. I am currently on a journey and the destination is where God has called me -- creating music that will uplift and inspire people. I'm not too sure how I will get there. Nor have I the resources to do so...yet. However, I know that with much faith and determination, God will see to it that my labors will not go in vain. I prepare to bear the fruit of the seed that I will sow this coming year.
I have created an outline detailing my short-term and long-term goals. I have proposed some deadlines in order to stay on track. There is no better time to start this journey but NOW. Please follow me as I will record my progress within this coming year. I'm sure there will be some laughs, some tears, and some hiccups along the way. Through it all, I would greatly appreciate your feedback!
*What is YOUR purpose in life? How will you achieve what God has called you to do? I would love to hear from you during your journey in "fulfilling your calling".
Once you have established that need or desire, say this prayer:
"I thank you, LORD, for granting the desires of my heart. I trust in YOU and YOU alone. I will never grow weary for I know that through the toughest battles you are with me. I am encouraged."
